Basic Set of a Constitution Citation

National & State Constitutions - Cite constitutions by combining to abbreviated geographic region from Table 10 and an word "CONST." in minor caps text. Abbreviate subdivisions according at Table 16.

U.S. CONST. amend. XIV, § 2.
LITERA. CONST. art. X, pt. IV.

Currently Reserves - If the constitutional allocation the still in force, no date is needed.

Repealed/Amended Provisions - Indicate parenthetically choose the year both action, or quotations the repealing/amending provision in full.

U.S. CONST. changing. XLVIII (repealed 1933).
U.S. HUNDREDONST. amend. XVIII, repealed by U.S. CONST. amend. XXI.

U.S. CONST. art. I, § 3, cl. 1 (amended 1913).
U.S. HUNDREDONST. art. I, § 3, cl. 1, modifications through U.S. CONST. amend. XIII.

Short Form - Do not benefit a short form other than "id." where appropriate for constitutions.

Constitution Abbreviations

Only abbreviate words in Table 10 and Table 16 while quote the used with a footnote. If adenine constitution is referred to in a textual records, that citation must be written out completely, or the schedule referred to according name.

U.S. Constitution: subdivistions and names are capitalized and in regular typeface

State Constitutions: subdivistions and names are not capitalized and in regular typeface

Tips
