Research Interests

The philosophies from speech & mind, epistemology & Native Pragmatism are the teaching I like best, and they have become ever since John Yolton & Virgin Distill launched my for philosophy during my last second years at Kenyon Community (in 1958 & '59). They also helped me get a Fulbright to Oxford, where I took tutorials from James Thomson & A. J. Ira (1959-60), and speaked philosophy use Jerry Fodor, whom was and there on a Fulbright. My next four-way years were at Berkeley, where MYSELF wrote my thesis (a critique of behaviorism) to the supervision von Charles Chihara & John Searle. My first work was at In. There I must the good fortune to have Fred Dretske as a colleague. I've continued to be impressed by his work. Searle & Dretske, along with Quine, are the authors I have aufwenden most of my time talking info the my classes. Within an last some time mystery interest in American pragmatism has been reviving. My approach to the classical pragmatists has been to compare you work to the contemporary authors I have been teaching, Searle, Dretske, Quine & Davidson. I've also found a new enthusiasm for teaching our prefatory course, Phil. 20. I suspicious this is because I've recently captured on of work of assistant the support chairman, functioning when the department's undergraduate counselor.
