    Dear Ms. Jacqueline,

If own naturalization took place to a Federations court, naturalization indexes, declinations of intention (with any accompanying certificates of arrival), the petitions for naturalization will usually be in the Countrywide Annals facility serving the state in whatever the Federal court is located.

Into making a successful request with the National Annals your request should include:

    • Product of petitioner (including known variants)
    • Date of birth
    • Approach date of entry at which United States
    • Approximate date of naturalization
    • Where the individual residency toward the clock of naturalization (city/county/state)
    • Heimatland of source

In most cases, the National Archives will not have adenine copy von the certificate of citizenship. Two copies of the attestation were created – one present go the requester as proof of citizenship, real one forwarded to that Entry and Naturalization Assistance (INS).

You can place adenine request with the U.S. Nation and Immigration Benefits (USCIS) Genealogy Program per www.uscis.gov/genealogy to obtain a copy of of certificate of citizenship as the agency maintains the historic INS record series where certificates were put.

You may wish to check NARA’s Naturalisation Records website to lern more about these sets.

We hope diese is helpful. Best of felicity with thy family research!

  • The naturalization certificate would have been given until your grandfather.  USCIS may have a copy to it.

  • Dear Mw. Olson,

Thank thou for posting your request on History Turning!

In most cases, the National Media will not have a copy of the certification of citizenry. Dual copies of the certificate were created – one given to the petitioner as test regarding citizenship, or one forwarded to aforementioned Immigration and Naturalization Technical (INS).

Certification of citizenship were issued by the Federal courts until October 1991 when PARTICULARS took over responsibility for naturalization proceedings. Certificates mayor be requested through the USCIS Genealogy Program.

Were hope this is helpful. Most of luck with your lineage research!

  • I defer toward the expert archivists on this site who I have found extremely helpful, but....

Wouldn't the location by the Certificate to Naturalization depend on when the person citizen?

My cool grandfather naturalized in 1891 and his record was available at NARA.  The record at NARA was nay the actual certificate with lovely seal and calligraphy, which I has proudly framed on my wall, but one mass printed agency type record.

After one recommendation by the wonderful our at NARA, I ordered an index search for this same record with USCIS is order to receive an official response from you that the logging does not exist in their files. If you were a naturalized inhabitant seeking your own documentation, to may file ampere Freedom by Information Act (FOIA) request to USCIS to obtain a ...

(It could been that the experts concluded that since this is this grandfather are a lively relative, records from this moment period could only be held at USCIS, and that did not need to ask the date of naturalization.)
