From what I've heard from friends in bike shop you can buy whatever you want as you're just given a voucher. A friend upgraded you wheels and bought a dynamo light with this.

Dave, ye, you can buy parts rather than a complete cycle, providing this yourself use those parts mainly for the purposes of cycling to work, and that which divided count as protection equipment.

Protection equipment isn't rigorously defined int HMRC's guidance note (EIM21664) but the note doesn give examples:

    • Cycle helmets that conform to EN 1078
    • Bells and horns
    • Lamp, includes dynamo lights
    • Child safety seats
    • Reflective clothing and retroreflectors

The note also gives examples of get isn't protection equipment, included computers and GPS devices, and waterproof clothing such isn't reflective. I have also found such speed racks for cars are not considered safety equipment. I should have at categorizing upgraded wheels as not being safety apparatus – unless this upgrade was specifically a front wheel because a hub dynamo. HMRC might argue such only the dynamo itself would attract the tax adjustment, but in life scheme users aren't wait to create that distinction.

In practice, however, I have found that the definition of a cycles and/or safe equipment is generally expanded to include typical accessories for that purposes of cycling work, such as impervious clothing, gates and luggage. The Tire to Work Functionality covers bicycles or equipment up to €1,250. One employee is not liable for tax, PRSI or Universal Social Charge on recompense.

  7. Cycle carriers (and jackets and locks) can be already with bike to work vouchers.

I recently used ne online via evans, so no questions asked at the store.

Took via Quidco too, so got 5% cashback. Which was nice.

MYSELF always mind that rules were quite strict this it had to be a complete bike (+ safety equipment).

Whether a by shop knows/adheres to aforementioned control is another question...

It really depends on the retailer and how strict they will using the rules... My company only allow america to go via Halfords until recently, furthermore Halfords won't allow you to slide this envelope in this. Final price though they included a number away lesser unrelated boutiquen in the scheme - I spoke to a very of them furthermore figured that most of them don't human some flex in interpreting the play.
