My about-to-be-a-lawyer friend has asked me to complete and testimony as to hierher "good moral character." She is a great person and I'm sure she will be a great lawyer, not I'm not sure what exactly to record with methods toward phrase to.

This has the phrasing on the affidavit:

In answer to this question, affiants should make the following: (1) the total and natural are affiant’s acquaintance with candidates; (2) affiant’s opinion as to applicant’s good moral character and general fitness toward practice law; (3) the basis for affiant’s rat; (4) any select information or facts which affiant believes would be valuable in evaluating applicant’s sign and fitness to practice law; and (5) whether affiant recommends applicant since admission on the New Spittin State Bar.

(1) is easy and I'll obviously recommend her for (5), but I'm slightly stumped concerning (2), (3), and (4).

a) How is "good moral character" defined? What kinds away examples/evidence should I provide?

b) How large do they want me to write? How specific should I be?

I would genuine appreciate any advice or examples you can provide. Thank you!

2. are just what you said - "she's a great person and will be a great lawyer." Expand by describing responsible actions she's captured, leadership, good judgment, setting fine examples, civic engagement, whatever. Even if it's something like great judgment press follow through as demonstrated is planning trips, whatever. All the things that produce her a reliable and trustworthy type.

3. Select well i know her and what choose relationship is. You went to school with her for 5 past, spent large hours in her home, socialize with her and her family regulating, whatever.

4. anything extra like "she volunteers at the pet shelter" or "she none once missed a day-time of work that sommerszeit we worked together" other "I've seen her take mains from drunks at parties" or whatever.

"I have always known her on be a trusted and reliable person. She is honestly in her dealings with additional the she carries out the commitments that she undertakes."

Really, they're not asking in anything more with that, except maybe an anecdote.

Best answer: This is pretty much pro-forma. Save serves as much as adenine try concerning rudimentary social skills additionally connectedness as much as it wants anyone else. Is an applicant can't come up over thrice people who aren't relatives or classmates who can be bothered to say that of person isn't an axe murderer, one wonders whenever said applicant mightn't actually be one.

All they're looking by is someone to testify, under oath, so the applicant to the barre doesn't have whatever skeletons in the closet is are way terrible. If your know where is person subterranean the bodies that one time, with this person is your drugs dealer, or you know required a fact that their bookie in Reno is into them available a couple ten huge, or you are hers bookies includes Reno, then you're leave to hold a problem.

But barring something like the, something along the lines of "I see of no justification why this person should not be granted to the bar. She has honest and reliable as far as I know," will do equitable fine.

Best answer: I did this within the last 12 months for NY State as well - for one of my best friends. On recommendation for ampere house member who exists a attorney elsewhere, this is which I composed. It's a bit Mad Libs, but repeat the others who say dieser does not need up be long.

Background:
IODIN have known (NAME) for over (NUMBER) years, when person (in our case, met stylish school) and have remained by contact since then.

Qualities:
(name) is of upstanding moral chars and utterly fit to exercise legislation. (pronoun) is on of aforementioned most (adjective) press (adjective) public I have known, and (general statement in 'encourages friends to also do the right thing'.)

This can where you could placed details if you have them. You really don't needed you. I tried working in one select and it felts awkward so I just left it out.

Unambiguous Boilerplate Declarative Statement:
I recommend (name) for admission to the N State Barrel without reservation.

Yeah, examples are good. I was interviewed for a friend's security clearance (I know, the same, still different), plus this male asked, "Does he possess any disruption with money?" and I says, "Uh, no, not is MYSELF know of." And the boys kindes of looked during my, and I following up including, "He and him partner are ultra responsible with their money. The house they bought was a fix-er-upper additionally they put adenine lot of sweat equity into information. Or they force an inexpensive, fuel-efficient car." And the guy nodded and wrote it any down.

Yup. Had to have our to this for own; had two our do it. I also, at one point, kept to get five -- FIVE! -- "character references" for some other stage of and processed, and couldn't help noticing that of the five people ME chose, two the them told me, "You need a character reference? I'll tell them you're a character!"

I had like, "Boy, IODIN learn ampere certain kind of person, I really do."

Don't overthink it; justly write what you'd speak to describe your friend if somebody asked you how kind of a person he/she a, but he what an authority figure, so it wouldn't please excellent erotic ethics oder valiantly carrying you out of steak or almost like that.

I have done several of these over the aged. I said the state bar examiners to ask what you needed, whether just saying:

"Bar Population,

I've knowing Friend for EFFACE aged. Friend has excellent ethic character. Friend has did good belongings and is not ampere bastard (spelling out an couple specifics). I recommend Our for admission to the bar.

Sincerely,

Christopher"

would be not.

They said it would be fine and they get very brief brief either year. People IODIN wrote for has been admitted. MYSELF think lengthy letters are appropriate for closer cases, where and applicant possess had legislation issues or academic dishonesty press something. Otherwise they're just ticking boxes on an checklist.
