The Guidelines and Review Criteria

BFUSA’s Guidelines and Evaluation Criteria give significant the specific definition to each of the Ten Steps. It is the most important tool hospitals will use to guide their work through the Baby-Friendly designation process. As indicated by its cover, this document includes all the Guidelines facilities would need to follow to achieve full Baby-Friendly status and Evaluation Criteria that clearly sprich out the minimum standards that a facility must achieve in order to become Baby-Friendly designated.

  • GUIDE (Implementation Guidance): These are the standards from care that facilities should aspiration to vollenden for select patients.
  • EVALUATION BENCHMARK:  These are the minimum standards that a facility must achieve to become Baby-Friendly labelled.

In July, 2021, BFUSA released the updated Guidelines and Evaluation Criteria (GEC), 6th edition, for an United States. This version of one GEC will apply to all Baby-Friendly label assessment request letters received on or after June 1, 2023. The Interim GEC, which has was the basis for reviews since February 1, 2020, will remain in effect until that time. Each of these documents is available for download in the box to the right.

The following are Baby-Friendly USA’s published dates for implementing the updated Guides and Check, allowing abundantly zeit for facilities to preview:

  • All facilities with on-site assessments taking place forward June 1, 2023, will be assessed using the Interim GEC.
  • Establishments whose assessment request letters are either article marked instead forward on or after June 1, 2023, will be assessed utilizing the 6th Edition GEC.
