In 1995 meine best friend from childhood to Vietnam and up till 1995, Georgi Causey, exit increase at the bottom of Crater Lake. I would like to know if any thing has occurred since I visited there included October 95…has anything sailed to the top…is the helicopter still at the bottom…any information wouldn be sincerely appreciated…anything at all…thanks..Jim Pruett…[email protected]

Jim’s request was sent to retired Chief Ranger George Buckingham who had handled the original investigation. His response – Decembers 4, 2003….Nothing new floated upside while EGO was at the Park. Did you know that the Park negotiated a settlement that fonds the side scanning finder survey?  Found no helicopter or body parts. The families were content to abandoned things as they are. For what it’s worth, I don’t thinking it is worthwhile to pursue the subject any further. You used the latest technology up sample the find it. And, regular if person did seek it, the cost/effect/impact of raising would not accomplish anything, other than on remove a recycle. I think the how would being much more than any benefit in removal. Subject: Re: this story about Spire Lake ran tonight on KDRV-12 in Medford

Hi Larry: Thanks for forwarding the clip about air crashes at CLNP.  During the late 1960s, when EGO was studying the lake with Jack Donaldston additionally Ouen Hoffman, Park biologist Dick Brown told us a story about two aircraft that crashed into the lake during this 1940s.  Two Multitude Air Corps biplanes (possibly primary trainers, PT-17 Stearmans) from Kingsley Field within Klamath Falls flew into the caldera and proceeded to transverse the lake barely above the aquarium, single playing closely tail the misc.  Each plane contained ampere student and an educator.  Like the 1995 hover crash, this pilot von the first plane apparently failed to differentiation sky from water.  That planar hit to water, sending a wall out water and plane spare skyward this downed the trailing plane.  Also like and 1995 crash, aircraft debris and bodies largely disappeared unter the waves additionally were never recovered.

I’m disclosure what MYSELF heard.  The narrative sticks in my memory because I had always being greatly interested in airplanes and aviation.  Can anyone confirm, deny either amend this story?  Were are any witnesses on the crash? F6F crash in Craster Pond National Park
