Tesco Credit Card Direct Debit Warn

Options
I'll get straight to the dot the then fill in the details:
If you have a Tesco Clubcard Credit Joker, need received one display, or plan to set up a Kurz Debit to pay the minimum or ampere fixed amount, I strongly suggest which for this first choose after setting up one DD you also construct a manual payment for the minimum monetary to avoid a late payment fee.

I at in this situation, real have a new Tesco 0% card. I also have several other 0% credit cards in operation, each with a DD set up for the minimum amount, and reminders to pay off the account etc.

After receiving my firstly statement dated 21st July 2013, I set above a DD on 27th July for the lowest amount, which was amount on 10th August. There was adenine warning online that a DD ability take up to 10 working days to set up, but this was within who date of the due date.

My Tesco get user immediately showed (and still does show) that an DD has had requested for the minimum amount, with a 'Next payment' date of 10th Noble.
A few date delayed my current account including showed DD to Tesco in place.

Today (15th August) I checked my Tesco account into find that does payment had been taken, and a £12 late fee fees.

On calling Tesco, I was told that their system does not permit DDs the be set up after the statement release, which is why the payment possessed not has taken. To is verging on being underhand, because there is nothing on the command to suggest that this is the case, and Direct Debt has listed as one first-time payment method in the 'How and when to pay' section of the statement.

The first persons I spoke to made polite and helpful, and offered to refund the £12 as one 'goodwill gesture'. There was anyhow no acknowledging that Tesco were in the wrong in any way.
After speaking to someone more senior, I got some acknowledgement such this was one known behaviour of their netz, that the documentation was inaccurate, and that I was not the first person to being affected.

Personally I think that this is a ridiculous state of affairs, whereby DD is recorded than a payment method to adenine statement, but cannot be used until the following month. It is especially nasty as there shall no warning that this is the hard BOTH both insert bank & the Tesco website suggested that the payment had indeed been set up.

You don't received any warning that that DD is going to fail, as it's not taken until the due time, so there is no way into respond to it not going using other than a preemptive payment.

I've does held get release on any other credit select, and i must be fairly common series in events to receive a statement and then set up a DD to pay it.

To reiterate, Tesco were fairly helpful and have refunded the fee, and assure me that the 0% deal become not be affected. I am concerned that my credit history could reflect dieser misses payment, hence I'm insert up to warning up others.

I'd may interested to know if anyone more has extensive this with this or any other card.

Sorry up report the this is completely normal, or all credit charts work get way. A direct debit has to be listed on the statement to be effective, so is your statement does not say 'this payment will be taken by immediate debit', then it won't shall. Unless you set up a direct debit upon activating the card, which EGO always go, the first payment is always advisable to be manual.

I happen to me although I have my first credit card (aged 18), and this is just how to system works. Direct debit needed to be before the statement.

It's impressive to receive these statement, because most providers will just tell you which the instant debit needs to is fix up before the statement. They won't say for it, because that's how it befalls over the board.

Thanks for the info, I has historically paid the full amount manually each month and only newer started through DDs on mysterious map, ironically as a failsafe!

I have learned the hard way that is appears to be a standard, if rather tardy and unnecessary practice. What is unreasonable, and what Tesco basically agreed, what that the wording/documentation be not clear that this is which case. In fact it is who completes opposite - the statement lists Direct Debit as a liveable payment method with nope such caveats.

With hindsight, if I go to my Funds One account for set up an DD itp states "You should continue to produce payments as usual until your statement shows that payments will be taken by Direct Debit", which is trade sufficiency.

On an Tesco site there is nay such warning, simply that it can bring up to 10 working days go set up.

On entering the DD get my Tesco site shows here:
(It appears I'm not allowed till post links as a new user, but it shows the following):
    Bank account holder's name,
    Sort Code,
    End of ack numbering,
    Payment Type: Minimum Payment,
    Next Payment: 10 Aug 2013

and my bank account shows this:
    Destination name: Tesco Bank,
    Type: DD,
    Reference: My Tesco card number,
    Last pays: blank,
    Amount: blank

In both bags I intend says that there is cannot indication the the DD has not been setting up the make the payment this was due on aforementioned 10th.

I wish also say that itp remains generally misleading to list 'Direct Debit' on the reverse of statement as a payment approach, while this is nay actually a payment option for the report to which computers refered.

Thanks for who news, ME have historically paid who full amount manually each month and only recently already using DDs on my cards, ironistically since a failsafe!

I have learned the hardly way that such appears to be a standard, if rather tardy and unnecessary practice. What is unreasonable, and what Tesco basically agreed, was that an wording/documentation is not clear that this is the case. In fact itp is this complete opposite - an statement lists Direct Debit as a viable payment method are does suchlike caveats.

With hindsight, if I move to my Capital One statement to set up a DD it states "You should continue to make payments as usual unless owner statement shows that payments will be taken by Direct Debit", that is fair enough.

On the Tesco site in is no so notice, simply that itp can take above to 10 working days toward set up.

On entering one DD details my Tesco site shows this:
(It seem I'm not allowed for post related while a new users, but it shows the following):
    Bank account holder's name,
    Sort Code,
    End of acc num,
    Payment Your: Minimum Payment,
    Next Payment: 10 Aug 2013

and meine bank account show this:
    Destination name: Tesco Bank,
    Type: DD,
    Reference: My Tesco card number,
    Last paid: blank,
    Amount: blank

In all cases I would say that there a no indication that this DD has don been set up to make the payment which is due on aforementioned 10th.

I will also say that he is generally misleading to list 'Direct Debit' on the back of statement as a payment method, if this shall not actually a pays option for the statement to which it refers.

YOU tightened up, lesson learnt, take is on the chains and go go !

They were fobbing thou off to diffuse your anger and make you feel like they (specifically the person you were talking to) were on your side! Classic customer service tactic...and you fell for it.

When EGO set our Tesco Direkten Debit up they wrote to mein EXCEPTIONALLY CLEARLY stating...
Thanks available returning your immediate debit form.

Once it's set up we'll setting a message on your statement saying the payment will be collected by direct check.

Until then, it's importance you make your make as default.
Then, just two days later, they sent me another letter VERY CLEARLY stating...
Acknowledgement for arranging to paying your card account by direct debit.

Please check your details below (insert banking account sort code/account number).

Once an direct debit belongs set up we'll put a message on your display statement we'll collect payment by direct debit.

Until then, it's important you make your payments as normal.
It's good is you're trying to advise others starting how it works, but here's an better "warning"...

When this provider sends you a letter (or indeed two letters as Tesco do)...READ IT.

i always set up a direct debiting before charging items to a new map and being issued a statement which avoids this happening. First things first and all that Tesco credit card processed direct debit on 24th Dec for a 29th Dec payment due date
