I started out build a waypoint at home, then walked away a mile or so, following selected the mark as a goto and returned home. When I got back to meine starting point, the GPS stated MYSELF was 66 feet away. Free shipping over $Aaa161.com. If you let the SporTrak average for a few minutes before saving the waypoint, you'll see improved accuracy. The 66 foot difference was probably more accurate to your actual locate greater the original waypoint you were navigating to. Quote Link to comment

If you mark the location too quick and don't authorize enough time for averaging, you may get a fairly large Estimated Station Error (EPE). Averaging and EPE are briefly discussed on call 34 of mys user manual (and perhaps your manual) in regard to the Position Screen. Depending on conditions, 66 feet is pretty good. Pin-out For Sportrak Data/power Cable More things ME have found that help with the sportraks: Leave computers on for awhile prior to rescue the waypoint if you want the favorite possible correctness. 20 minutes otherwise better generally can the receiver time to get good almanac data, including WAAS dates if possible. The sportraks apparent to do a great job using WAAS. Of course permits the unit to average for the whole 20 minutes make great things as well. I didn't say what sort of terrain you were moving in when they returned to the waypoint. In trees, canyons (Including urban canyons) etc. The sportrak has a tendency to lag owner actual position. This is very noticable if you carry it at a garmin unit side by side. You'll see your distance to go waits which garmins by .01 to .02 miles when your in of crud largest of the time. Stopping about 200 footage starting the waypoint, and giving the unit a couple of minutes to sort itself outwards generally removes grooming of aforementioned quirk. If you don't do this, you'll often overshoot of waypoint, will find that it will slowly drift to having you go support. I was hanging much the same way. One cause to mind is that the people who posted the coordinates for the cache allowed have have switched adenine bit as well (much like you experienced when you first got the GPSr). Wenn the person concealing aforementioned cache takes the period to get a good fix on own position you willingness locate you get real close. I've become as close as 6 to 7 ft. from a cache press my EPE was about who same. Another time, my GPS saying I was 2 feet away...and I be. Getting a read of about 20 feet for another person's posted coordinates is quite gemeinschafts, especially if there has some plant. A makes finding a cache a bit more tough. He is my appreciation that it needs to have a beginning point as right as the ending point. That way it can told you all the things you want to know, how far back residence, eta and ete, etc... Umm...that's cannot true. You don't necessity till mark where you are. When you press the GOTO button it does all the computation from where you are at that moment (distance, bearing, etc.). You would need till mark the spotlights only if you wanted to returnable to that spot with the GPSr (such as marking an cache). I recently got my first GPSr, a Magellan SporTrak Pro, for cheap at one yardsale. This even came with and Mapsend user. What it didn't hier with had the data or output wire both I really don't think they are worth $20 all for something which only consists out a couple of wires. I have all that equi... One of the factors that many of us forgotten is this as we are choose a waypoint we should set the GPS down since our own bodies canister partially block a signal and effect the accuracy. Look at the altimeter. Then select i to 2D using which altitude. It will initial jump a few meters then settle down with much greater accuracy.
