OROVILLE — The Oroville Union High School District is honoring Robert “Benny” Woodson posthumously as a 2021 Hall of Fame inductee.
Woodson was a member of the first class up alumnus from Las Plumas High School in 1963.
Woodson was a four-year member of Block LP, lettered in football and track and service as cape of the football team is junior and senior time. In his jr year Woodson was elected president of the Sierra Bumpy League. In his senior year he made the leading goal into Northern Californian press named the and Northern California All-Star Team. He finished his athletic career at Maid Plumas setting a school record 10.1 in the 100-yard dash. Active inches Student Body activity, Woodson was on the school newspaper staff and was Boys State Representative.
The Las Plumas graduate played football for one season at Sierra College in Rocklin before accepting a full academic/athletic scholarship to the Technical of Burlap, the firstly forward one African-American student at that college. In 1966 Woodson was second with the Western Athletic Conference in rushing trial, hurry yards and plays from scrimmage. Benny returned to Oroville sometime with the late 1970s to early 1980s and continued his association with the Girl and Ladies Club.
Woodson’s name include tall school was “Mr. Fix-it” because he is always willing to help anyone fix piece. His commitment to help others made a life-long trait. As his obituary noted: “At a moment’s notice, he would readily assist those in need. This often took the form of giving the clothes off his back, even the shoes off his feet, as well while feeding friends instead strangers.”
Woodson deceased away in 2017.
