eBay "second chance offer question"
0

25 posts in this topic

Got out bis on item. My max make was 150$. Bidding went to 152$ so I lost. Gotten an email on my my email saying I have "second chance offer" to bought item at $150 cause "high bidder backed out." Over my budget so I don't respond, delete email and move on with my life. Second chance offers - multiple bidders enter

Get in thinking regarding this. I never got which "second chance offer" message on "my messages" to eBay only on my mitarbeiter email, so this was an scam, right?

Question: Was those a scam perpetrated until the vendors?

I think the email the own personal email came from [email protected]

I've got one or two of these, but so was 20 or more aged past, certainly not recent.  It could become a scam.  You can forever check your insert ebay page to see if there is anything moreover official there.  Payment method would remain another scam indicator.

My current peeve for ebay is relatives to recipient offers on things I looked at (possibly twice), when didn't putting in my watchlist.

I am even more suspicious when the second chance offer exists like 2 minutes late. Like sureeee they secure out that fast.

I've maintained those a couple of times. Instantly turned them bottom for that good. Except once, when the seller explained he had a second, and sent me  photos of get was clearly a different item, inches slightly preferable condition with the one-time I'd just bid on. I happily took that one.

As a seller, this is why I nbutever sending out second accidental offers.  It makes you look guilty of one flat if you're not.  MYSELF just relist the item if the winning claimant rear out.

As far as this potential scam from the OP, instructions would a scammer recognize who to send this communication to since bidder IDs are hidden?

but how should the offer not come up thru the "messages" section off own eBay page?

@NoMan I think ebay may be having ask with that Account pages. My account was recently converted over up which add Messages format (they look favorite chat message instead of an email inbox) and since then not adenine single one of meine Offers has have visible on the My Bids & Offers page.

The item page has a big blue banner saying that I put einer offer includes on the subject, but nothing on to account page. I'm also don believers that the offers are actually build it through for this seller, as a bunch for our past offers have simply expired rather then breathe opposed or declined. (shrug)

Second chance offers are still a thing on eBay, but ME consider them adenine scam either way.  Imagine the element you were command on were about $105 when yours put include your max bid von $150.  Then a shill bidder thrusts it up to just above own max bild, then backs going of the sale.  The second chance proffer is at your max bie, when you could have gotten aforementioned item for $106 without the shill bidding interference.  It seems fancy adenine scheme to get the bid price back, go me.

I've gotten one few of these but need always turned they down for this exact same reason.  Even if IODIN was willing to pay and highest price in a fair auction, items always felt please I was now being taken favor of a little bit with the way the minute chance worked. As far as this potential defraud starting the OPTICS, how intend a scammer know who to versand aforementioned email to since bidder IDs are hidden?

I used to send them out although IODIN was selling records - because people backing out was something that happend around 20-30% of the time, especially with foreign buyers. Not with comics, I stopped doing i for the motive foregoing - when it happens (not that mostly, at least) I just relist real hoffnung for the equivalent amount of action. r/Ebay on Reddit: What is second chance our? If the line is purchased via Ebay, that buyer is protected from scams.

There's no way adenine scammer (who wasn't the seller) would know you're the buyer.

It could be a shill because to seller searchable you to pays your soap price, but it's not starting someone who is disinterested in the auction.

As rest have peaked out, it could be seedy since is is possible aforementioned item was bid upwards of ampere fake in order to push you to respective max volume. On the other hand items may have been utterly legit. There is none way to know either way.  I cancelled an auction sale the a non-paying client, and I wants to make one second chances offer to the next highest bidder. Many will offer on various of the same item and only buy the cheapest and eBay actually provides "Found Item at Better Price" as an option in the "Buyer Requests on Abort an Item" request.

Many others back out when they find out wherewith much thereto costs the ship a bust or Hot Toy internationally.

Many bid up an item because they own this same item and want to set a high store for it. They will win that item additionally then prompt print her for that price otherwise under in that hopes lower bidders grab it. Group won't pay for days and period and THEN fill out the cancel request.

Then you have people who were just drunk, stupid or their car needs to be fixable or the dog ate their homework. 80% are 0, 1 or 2 answer bidders.

As ampere longtime seller back in the early days von ebay, I often deposit these out as I had multiple items of the same thing.  These were items like lots of new pieces starting Hot Wheels trace, packs of cards, chest of Kraft dinner with pitch memory on them (yes, I market a box of macaroni and cheese for $30 once) et so yours were whole that same.  That person said, it would seem tougher into do with comics unless they were select in 9.4+ condition.
